Getting to know you

What’s your name and role within Inspiring Teaching?

My name is Shola-Marie Auguste-Daniels and I am a Junior Recruitment Consultant.

How long have you worked with Inspiring Teaching?

I’ve been working as a Junior Consultant for less than a month, but I’ve been working as a Teaching Assistant since September last year.

I worked as a self-employed hair stylist for around 10 years before switching career paths to Teaching Assistant as I wanted to branch out and share my expertise and skills.

How would you sum up your job in one sentence?

In short, I would say - actively recruiting prospective Teaching Assistants and preparing them for working with one of our client schools.

I was intrigued to experience both sides of the process and learn more about everything that goes into supporting schools with support staff. I contacted Callum about the possibility of a split role and thankfully he loved the idea.

My role involves working in the office for three days and two days on placement with our client schools. I’m really enjoying the mix that my split role brings. There’s a real change of pace between the office and school environments, and it allows me to build skills and experience in both settings.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

I love recruiting new staff. It involves learning about new people, understanding their needs and helping them find a job that they love.

My work as a Teaching Assistant allows me to connect with candidates more. I’m able to give an honest perspective of what schools look for and how candidates can make the most of their placements.

If you could learn anything instantly, what would it be?

This one is quite easy, it would be to speak French. My family can all speak French and I’m the only one who can't.

Pineapple on a pizza?

In my opinion, pineapple shouldn’t be on a pizza.

I had pineapple on pizza when I was younger and got food poisoning shortly after. I’m not sure exactly where the food poisoning came from but to this day I blame the pizza.

What would you choose as a go-to song to put you in a good mood?

I’ll choose ‘Like a bird’ by Nelly Furtado. It’s a song that makes you feel better no matter what mood you are in.

What’s the most recent movie or series-binge that you’ve recommended?

‘Night Agent’ on Netflix. I’ve been re-watching season 1 to refresh my memory before diving into the new series.

Would you rather read a book, listen to an audiobook, or neither?

This one has to be read a book. I’m a hardcore believer in paperback, so reading on a Kindle or listening to audiobooks doesn’t feel the same.

I’m a regular reader, dystopian or romance books are probably my favourite genres.

What’s your dream holiday destination?

Going to Hawaii Is my dream. I’d be happy to stop off somewhere on the way since it’s such a long journey as long as I get to spend time in Hawaii.
